How the math works
This isn’t money you could have earned instead. Screen time isn’t 1:1 tradeable for wages, you have a job, not a per-minute side hustle. What it shows you is what that time is worth, at your own rate.
Your hourly rate: annual salary ÷ (38 standard full-time hours a week, for 48 working weeks a year[113]). The 48 accounts for 4 weeks of annual leave, because that’s how the salary was actually earned.
Your annual value: weekly value × 52, not 48. Non-productive screen time doesn’t take annual leave, it happens every week including holidays and weekends. Using 48 in both places would quietly double the discount; using 52 in both would overstate the hourly rate. This is deliberate, not an inconsistency.
The categories: nothing here judges which apps are “bad”. Every app defaults to a suggested category, and every default is yours to change. The number is only as honest as your own answers.
